THE ART

In unseen shadows there are ghosts. In the dark. In the light. In the invisible. As their seeker and vehicle, I enter their ethereal homes and resurrect their souls with my pen. Do you see the shadows? Can you hear the ghosts? Once they scream from the great beyond, I turn up the volume and listen to their echo.

These ghosts know where to find me. They appear on sidewalks, in water, on the ground, in the ether, on subway tiles.. everywhere, kindly calling my name. A demanding haunt stops me in my tracks and I capture the ghost by taking a photo of their shadow. With their silhouette as my guide, I superimpose my illustrations into their shape and begin to free their spirits. My pen rewrites the codes of their fallen DNA and lands them in a new world. I draw and they breathe again.

THE ARTIST

Matthew K. Addison is a New York based multi-hyphenate artist from Warwick, Rhode Island. He began illustrating in the early years of elementary school and immediately took an interest in creating forms in-action against the backdrop of abstract landscapes using his imagination. In 2016, Ghost Shadows started as a simple way to pass the time on the subway. Matthew’s approach started simple by taking a picture, drawing over it, and recreating the image all on an iPhone. Three years later, Matthew joined forces with art manager, Tony Pietropaoli, and began illustrating exclusively on an iPad Pro through Procreate to enhance the potential of his creations. Since partnering with Pietropaoli, Ghost Shadows has expanded far beyond what both artists could ever imagine. Matthew’s exploration is boundless and there will always be ghosts looking for new homes to be seen beyond the shadows.
